Micro Grant Program

2009 Guidelines

 The Westmoreland Keystone Innovation Zone can provide grant money to qualified KIZ companies to support a project that promote innovation and job creation.  Eligible applicants can receive up to 50% or a maximum of $5,000.00 towards an eligible project.       

Eligibility:

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • The company must be less than 8 years old.
  • The company must be located in one of the Westmoreland KIZ designated areas.
  • The company must represent one of the KIZ industry sectors: Information Technology, Life Sciences/Bio-Medical or Diversified Materials/Advanced Manufacturing.

To qualify for funding, an applicant must show how the use of Westmoreland Keystone Innovation Zone Project Grant funding will enhance the company’s ability to develop new technology, commercialize a new technology, or increase its level of competitiveness in the marketplace.

Project examples include but not limited to:

  • Patent applications
  • Project design/development
  • Prototype development and testing
  • Specialized consulting services related to product design, development, and feasibility analysis.
  • Purchase equipment / software directly related to project.

Grant funding cannot be used for:

  • Facilities (rent or purchase)
  • Insurance
  • Legal fees (except for Intellectual Property and Patents)
  • Taxes owed or debt payments
  • Refinancing of existing debt

Grant Process

Clients must complete a grant application and submit any necessary documents that may be necessary for approval.  Grant applications will be reviewed by the Westmoreland KIZ Review Committee for eligibility and final approval must be given by the Westmoreland KIZ Board.  Applications will be accepted on an on-going basis until funding is exhausted.  If awarded, grants will be in the amount not to exceed 50% of eligible project costs or $5000.00, whichever is less.  Company must provide a 50% match for this grant funding.
